Should I update my BIOS, once a new BIOS is released?

A new BIOS is usually released due to the following reasons:
1. New function is supported
2. New BIOS source code
3. Bugs are found

When we release a new BIOS, there's usually a release note attached which lists the reason for the release. Refer to this release note and decide for yourself if upgrading to the new BIOS will be worth it. A word of advice, though, do not upgrade to the new BIOS, unless you really have to.

How to use the thermal controls in the BIOS?

There are two items in the BIOS Setup (H/W Monitor):
1.CPU Smart Fan Temperature, which is used to set CPU Smart FAN target temperature value;
2.CPU Temperature Tolerance, which is used to set tolerance of target temperature value.

You can select a fan tolerance value here for the specific range for the Smart CPU FAN. If the current temperatures of the CPU reaches the maximum threshold, the fans will speed up for cooling the CPU down. If the current temperatures reach the minimum threshold (the set temperature minus the tolerance values), the fans will slow down to keep the temperature stable.

What is Display Port?

Display Port standard put forth by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) which has the ability to directly drive the panel in a manner similar to the old analog-based monitor. NVIDIA SLI is a platform that allows you to scale graphics performance by combining multiple NVIDIA graphics solutions in a single system.

This product has been fine tuned to provide better performance. In usual gaming environment, the loading goes ups and downs; however, by using stress test or burn-in test program, it will keep running GPU in high loading situation to probably cause damage to the GPU.

This is a known issue from NVIDIA that consider as a side effect of the NVIDIA driver. Below is the direct quota from NVIDIA: "This is a side effect of the NVIDIA driver performing an analog load detect on the display connection, which sometimes unavoidably occurs outside of V‐blank, resulting in the white line. Monitors with both connector types (DVI and VGA), report either a DVI or VGA EDID over the corresponding connector. Occasionally, such a monitor will erroneously report a VGA EDID over the DVI connector and vice versa. If the NVIDIA driver trusts and uses the provided erroneous EDID, there will be no display on the monitor. To prevent this problem, the NVIDIA driver performs an analog load detect to determine whether the connection is VGA. While every effort is made to perform the analog load detect during V‐blank, this cannot be guaranteed across all GPUs and systems."

Please kindly update ATI 10.8 driver or later version via GPU vendor to solve the sound delay problem.

• Always transport your notebook in the supplied protective, cushioned notebook bag.

• Always remove any disks or CDs from the drive before turning off the machine.

• Always turn off your notebook and ensure that all indicator lights have gone off before putting it away in your notebook bag.

• Place the AC adaptor in the AC adaptor compartment in the notebook bag.

• Place the laptop with the CD ROM facing up.

• Never transport your notebook with the screen open – even if you are moving it from one side of the room to the other.

• Do not place the laptop in the computer bag while it is on as it may overheat.

• Do not put other items like pens or pads inside the notebook compartment of your computer bag when you’re carrying your notebook around.

• Never place other objects inside your computer bag as this can crush the notebook and cause permanent bruises to appear on the screen.

Sometimes when your battery runs out of charge, it can get locked in resume mode. You can re-enable the normal mode by the following.

1. Plug the computer into main power.

2. If the machine is on hold down the power button on the computer for ten (10) seconds to completely switch it off.

3. Press and hold the backspace key and turn the computer on.

4. Once you see the Toshiba splash screen; release the backspace key.

5. When prompted use the arrow keys on your keyboard to select Start Windows Normally; pressEnter.

6. Windows should now load normally.

Many of these types of issues can be commonly associated with corruption to the software on your Vista® computer. Sometimes incompatible programs or files can be installed, causing your CD/DVD drive to fail. To check if this is the issue, follow the instructions below.

1. Click on your Start menu.

2. Select Control Panel.

3. Select Classic View.

4. Select Device Manager.

5. If prompted, select Continue.

6. When in Device Manager; select the item on the list that says DVD/CD ROM Drives by clicking on the plus button on the side.

7. Right click on the DVD/CD ROM Drive on the list and select Properties.

8. Then check the Device Status. If the device status says "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39 or 19)" then you have incompatible or corrupt files and will need to perform a System Recovery.

My CD/DVD drive is not appearing in Device Manager.

If your CD/DVD drive is not appearing in Device Manager; this may need to be assessed by a technician.

Asking some of the following questions can help you determine the cause of the issue.

1. Is the computer plugged into the main power?

2. When your computer is plugged into the main power; does the power indicator light show on the front panel?

3. Are all of the connections secured? Ie: are all of the cables plugged in all the way?

4. Have you tried different power points?

If your computer still is not powering on you may need to have a technician assess the machine for you.

Please note: Never use the AC adapter if it shows any signs of damage. When removing the AC adapter from the computer never pull from the cord, always grasp the connector and gently pull the cord from the computer.

Issues caused by handling the AC adaptor other then recommended may not be covered under warranty. 

Always wrap the cord as shown when transporting or storing your AC adaptor.

Do not wrap the power cord around the AC adaptor as this can cause the wires to split or snap where it enters the AC adaptor (see below).

Do not allow the AC adaptor to hang from the computer (as pictured below) as this can cause the DC Jack on the computer to break.

Do not put any pressure on the AC adaptor connector or the DC Jack as this can damage the AC adaptor or the computer or both.

Most new computers are no longer provided with recovery disks for your operating system. This is because your recovery media is now built into a hidden partition on your Hard Disk Drive. You can access this following these instructions.

If you would like to have a backup of this, you may create this by using your Recovery Disk Creator. This will allow you to create a copy of the files on the recovery partition on disk.

1. Click Start.

2. Select All Programs.

3. Select Recovery Disc Creator.

4. Within the Recovery Disc Creator select Create.

5. When prompted enter the first blank DVD and select Ok.

6. When prompted enter the second blank DVD and select Ok.

An external analog monitor or HDMI monitor can be connected to the computer's external monitor port. In order to connect a monitor, follow the steps as detailed below:

1. Turn the computer's power off.

2. Connect the monitor cable to the external monitor port.

3. Turn the external monitor’s power on.

4. Turn the computer's power on.

When you turn on the power, the computer will automatically recognize the monitor and determine whether it is a color or monochrome device. 
If you have problems on getting an image displayed on the correct monitor, you should use the FN + F5 hot key to change the display settings (if you then disconnect the external monitor before you turn the computer's power off, be sure to press FN + F5 hot key again to switch to the internal display).

To set your monitor to extended display

Windows 7

1. With the monitor connected to the computer go to Control Panel. If not enabled; Select View By: Large Icons. 

2. Double click on Display.

3. Click on adjust resolution.

4. Under Multiple displays select Extend these displays.

Windows Vista

1. With the monitor connected; click on your Start Menu.

2. Select Control Panel.

3. Select Display.

4. Select Personalise.

5. Click on Monitor 2.

6. Select Extend the desktop onto this monitor.

Please note: On supported models the Fn+F5 hotkey function can also be used to change the display configuration to extended desktop mode. Once in extended desktop mode the Fn+F5 hotkey function can be used to switch the display devices between primary and secondary devices.

Overcoming Compatibility Issues:

There have been sporadic reports of certain brands of memory cards having compatibility issues with Samsung camera and camcorder models. Unfortunately we are not able to confirm any specific manufactures of cards claiming to have such compatibility issues. Please also be aware when purchasing a memory card there have been cases where counterfeit cards have been sold. (Please check with your card manufacturer for any information regarding counterfeit memory cards.) If you have a card that is not working with the camera or camcorder, and appears to fall under the standards shown above please try the following steps.

● Check to make sure the issue is not with the camera itself by testing the memory card that came with the camera to make sure it is still functioning normally. If it also is causing a Memory Card Error or malfunction it is possible that the camera requires service.

● Try to format the problem card with the camera to see if this corrects the issue.

● Try to format the card in a card reader using a computer with a Windows operating system installed.

● If these steps do not solve the issue you may wish to contact the card manufacturer for any input they may have regarding card compatibility and your model of camera / camcorder.

It is always recommended that you use a memory card produced by a major manufacturer of memory cards that closely adheres with the current industry standards of the specific card type you are using.

You can follow these instructions:

(1.) Print out a demo page from the printer by press and hold down Demo or Cancel button for 3 seconds.

(2.) Check for connections

(3.) Connect to a different port: USB or Parallel.

(4.) Remove both Samsung and other printer drivers from the computer and reinstall Samsung Driver only.

Samsung GDI printers do not understand ASCII codes from DOS. This is not a defect in the printer and there is no patch or driver that will allow this printer to print from DOS. Other PCL compatible printers such as ML-1750, 2250, 2150, and 2550 can print from DOS.

Go to the Printers menu by going to: Start -> Settings -> Printers. To set the default printer, right click the icon for the printer you want as the default. On the menu that comes up select set as default.

Cause :

 1. Printer driver is corrupt.

2. Contents in printer spooler are corrupt.

3. Other incompatible printer drivers cause conflicts.

 Resolution: 

To troubleshoot this issue, follow these steps:

Method 1:

Reinstall the installed printers To reinstall the printers, please refer to "How to reinstall a printer ". If the issue persists, go to Method 2. 

Method 2:

Reset Spooler To reset spooler settings, follow these steps: 1.

Click the Start button, type Services.msc in the Start Search box and then press ENTER to open the Service window.

2. Double-click Printer Spooler in the Services list.

3. Click Stop and click OK .

4. Click the Start button, type %WINDIR%\system32\spool\printers in the Start Search box, press ENTER and delete all files in this folder.

5. Click the Start button, type Services.msc in the Start Search box and then press ENTER to open the Service window.

6. Double-click Printer Spooler in the Services list.

7. Click Start and click OK .

Method 3:

Isolate each printer drivers and find if any driver is the root cause. To isolate the printer driver, follow these steps: 

1. Click the Start button, type Print Management in the Start Search box and press ENTER to open the window.

2. Click All Drivers in the left pane. In the right pane, right-click on one printer driver and highlight Set Driver Isolation then select Isolated .

3. Start a printing job and see if printer spooler crashes. If it still crashes, change the driver isolation of the driver back to System Default (Shared) . Then continue to isolate the next driver. Once the issue does not occur after you isolate a driver, the driver should be the root cause of the print spooler crash issue.

The line that is being produced on the copies is caused by some sort of debris that is normally found in the ADF glass scanner area. The types of debris known to have been found in the area are: Dried Liquid Paper (which can be removed with isopropyl alcohol and a lint free cloth), Staples, and Paper Clips. Removing these items will clear up the copies being produced.

A number of things can cause your printer not to print. Ask the following questions:

1. Is the printer plugged in?

2. Is the printer online? Many printers have an On-line LED/LCD and button. If the printer isn't online it will not print.

3. Is the Ink cartridge, or Toner cartridge full? Some newer printers will stop working completely if they detect an empty cartridge. Most will at least give a warning.

4. Does it have paper? Be sure the paper is installed correctly, and there is enough for your print job. Most printers can detect when they are out of paper.

When using form-fed paper it is possible to get an out of paper message if you do not have the paper inserted aligned correctly.

5. Is there a paper jam? Paper jam will stop a print job in mid-stride. When you get your printer always read the manual on how to clear a paper jam. There are many parts that can be damaged inside your printer by being rough while clearing a paper jam. This is especially true with laser printers. 

6. Is the printers' memory full or corrupted? Try turning off the printer for a couple of minutes, and turning it back on.

White lines, Blotching, or blank spots usually indicate a issue with the toner or photosensitive drum. Try removing the cartridge, shaking it, and putting it back in. Check the printer's rollers to insure that nothing has built up on them. If this doesn't solve the problem try replacing the toner cartridge. 
Ghosting can be caused by a number of things. If the ghosting is heavy and dark it can sometimes indicate a oribken with the drum. This can be cleared up by replacing the toner cartridge. If the ghosting isn't dark and occurs with a particular document even after restarting the printer:

1. Lower the complexity of the document. This would include such things as lowering the dpi for the print, and avoiding over-use of grays.

2. Before the page that is having the ghosting problem, print an entire page of black.

The cost of ownership is one of the most overlooked factors when buying a home printer. It's highly suggested that you take it into consideration when you make a printer purchase.

To calculate cost of ownership, you need three things:

1. The cost of your ink cartridge/toner cartridge

2. The cost of your paper (per sheet)

3. The number of pages you can print on average from a cartridge. Once you have these factors, take the cost of the cartridge, and divide this by the average yield of the cartridge. This is your per page cost for ink. Add this number to your cost for page for paper to get your cost of ownership. You will usually find that paying a bit more for a printer in the beginning will save you more in the long run on your printing costs.
